Factor 2: Abuse Jeopardizes Child Custody

Child abuse is a heinous act that has no place in any family. Unfortunately, instances of child abuse cause irreparable damage and have lasting impacts on the victims and their families. In Florida, the court system takes child abuse very seriously, often resulting in loss of custody for those found responsible.

When deciding who has primary custody or time-sharing rights with a child in Florida, the law looks to what is best for the welfare of that particular child. This means if one parent has been found guilty of committing an act of physical or emotional abuse against a minor, they could lose their right to custody and time-sharing rights with the child entirely.
